Steve Williams partnership with Adam Scott is coming to a close, and Williams may of found a new opportunity on the LPGA Tour. Who saw this coming?
Williams will be on the bag for Danielle Kang at the New Zealand Women’s Open.
Williams, who has worked with Greg Norman, Raymond Floyd, Adam Scott and 12 years with Tiger Woods, had the opportunity arrive through a coaching connection.
Kang is one of the favorites for the Open, after a breakout season where she won her first major tournament at the PGA Championship.
“It’ll be a good experience to see if I can learn something from how they do things,” Williams told the New Zealand Herald. “Danielle is a good player, and once you start the tournament, you want to win, so nothing will change there.” Williams has never caddied on the ladies tour before.
Williams then made official what most had speculated, he won’t be with Scott after two events coming up in Asia.
“I’m not going to caddy for Adam next year, he’ll return to having a full-time caddy. He’s had a job share where he’s had two caddies for the last two seasons but he wants to return to one caddy next season”, said Williams.
Williams and Scott started working together in 2011, won the Masters in 2013 and Williams has worked part-time for Scott for the last couple of years.
“I’m not interested in caddying full-time anymore, I’ve done that enough. When you get away from golf there’s still plenty of things to do”, said Williams.
Stay tuned for more caddy news now that the new season is approaching, but doubtful we will see as many changes as we did in 2016-17, or will we?
