Justin Thomas had won three times this season, but still was not satisfied because none of his victories were a Major Championship. He changed that today at Quail Hollow CC with a two-shot victory and winning the 2017 PGA Championship.
Thomas finished with a 68 in the final round giving him a two-stroke victory over the threesome of Patrick Reed, Francesco Molinari and Louis Oosthuizen.
It was a pressure packed day as the best in golf all were seeking a win in the last major of 2017. At one point Sunday, five players were tied for the lead. Thomas jumped in the lead with a chip-in for birdie on No. 13 and solidified his lead with a 14-foot birdie putt on the treacherous par-3 17th taking a two shot lead over long time leader Kevin Kisner.
Hideki Matsuyama looked on course to become the first male Japanese major champion until he made three consecutive bogeys on the back nine.
“This is huge for me. This puts me in a lot better position than when the week started. You can’t get the second major till you get the first one, so this is big”, said Thomas.
“The LongGreen Mile” claimed a number of victims, and Thomas had the luxury of needing only a bogey at the last to secure the title with a closing 68 for a winning score of eight under par.

Thomas and Jordan Spieth are best friends, and Spieth needed a win this week to give him the career slam. Spieth faded back in the field on Saturday and left the door open for his friend Thomas to bring home the Wannamaker trophy.
