Patton Kizzire wins the 2017 OHL Classic at Mayakoba for his first PGA Tour victory.
The 31 year old Auburn grad won in his 63rd start on the PGA Tour. In 2015, Kizzire won twice on the Web.com Tour.
Kizzire started the final round with a one stroke lead over Rickie Fowler. The two players started early Sunday morning playing the third round which was delayed due to weather and darkness on Saturday.
Kizzire was never in danger of losing the lead. He increased his lead to three strokes after two holes with a birdie and Fowler making a bogey.
Fowler was a favorite coming to Mayakoba despite having not played in five weeks. With rounds of 65-67-67 he was in position to take the lead in the final round but never made a charge until the sixteenth hole. He birdied 16 and 17 to pull within one of Kizzire.
Fowler had a long birdie putt on 18 to tie, but just came up short, leaving Kizzire with a one footer for par and the win.
Si Woo Kim finished third at 15-under par with a final round 65. Charles Howell and Martin Pillar tied for fourth at 14-under.
Kizzire has advanced to the FedExCup Playoffs both seasons he’s been eligible. He finished No. 99 last season and No. 82 in the 2015-16 season. He currently sits No. 30 in the FedExCup standings and will move to the No. 1 spot with his win this week.

“It was pretty nerve wrecking but I’ve been in tough spots before. I was glad to get it done, Rickie made me work hard. I want to keep working hard and win bigger tournaments. This event is awesome and I am glad to get my first win here”, said Kizzire.
Both Kizzire and Fowler shot final round 67’s, with Kizzire’s round being bogey free.
