Ryan Armour wins Sanderson Farms Championship

41 year old Ryan Armour gets his first victory on the PGA Tour at the Sanderson Farms Championship. It was his 105th career start.

Armour started the final round with a five shot lead. Armour had never made the cut in four attempts prior to this year.

In his last ten rounds on the PGA TOUR, dating to the Wyndham Championship (T4), Armour has made 57 birdies and is a cumulative 36-under-par.

He shot a final round four-under 68 to finish at 19-under par, and four strokes ahead of Chesson Hadley who finished second.

Johnathan Randolph finished in solo third at 12-under par.

In his first-ever start on the PGA TOUR, Monday qualifier Scott Strohmeyer finished T-4 and gets in next weeks event in Las Vegas at the Shriners Hospital for Childrens Open. Smylie Kaufman and Brian Stuard also T-4 at 10-under par.

Armour’s first year on Tour was in 2007, and has moved back and forth from the PGA Tour to the Web.com Tour.

Armour made a return this year by virtue of his 11th-place finish on last year’s Web.com Tour priority list. On that Tour last year, he finished solo-second at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship in the Web.com Tour Finals.

As a PGA TOUR rookie, Armour earned three top-10 finishes in 2007. His next top-10 showing didn’t come until his T4 finish at this year’s Wyndham Championship. did not make a start on the PGA TOUR from 2011-2014.

On the Web.com Tour, Armour won the 2016 Panama Claro Championship.

An emotional Armour said after the winning putt, “I’m going to tear up. There have been some lean years and I was going to quit, but my wife wouldn’t let me. She has been so supportive.”

With the win, Armour gets in the Tournament of Champions, the PGA Championship, and 300 FedEx Cup points. This early in the season, the victory gives him close to a three year exemption on tour.
